The hair and makeup girls were right on time and began setting up all their stuff to get our large bridal party ready for the day! While they were doing that, I hung all our dresses up so that Amber could get a good picture of them all when she arrived. I am a little bit of a perfectionist, so this may have taken longer than I anticipated, but it was definitely worth it once I saw the pictures she got! Kayla had the schedule of what time each person was going for hair and makeup. The goal was to start at 9:00 and have everyone finished by 1:00 for pictures to start at 2:00. We left a little bit of time because there are inevitably issues that arise when you're trying to get 11 people ready. We started promptly at 9:00, and everything really flowed smoothly from there. I went first and got my hair curled since it has a tendency to fall out. I wanted it to be big for when Lauren got around to doing my up-do. After my hair was curled, I spent some time with Lorelei and Sophia playing, dancing, and reading. This whole day was truly a whirlwind, so I know there are probably so many little memories that I am forgetting about. I'm going to give a list of the little things that I do remember so I can hold onto them even if I don't remember all the details:
- Abigail and Brittany trying to get the music working through the sound system to play throughout the church
- Sydney steaming all the dresses
- Sitting on a pew, writing my wedding day letter to Al
- Helping my Aunt Wanda with the boutonnieres
- Pacing the hallway during my downtime thinking about all the goodness that was about to happen there
- Writing thank you notes to our vendors
- Meeting Seth and Haylie (our videographers) for the first time
- Running way ahead of schedule for hair and makeup
- Trying to get both baby girls to take naps
Just some small details that I have vague memories of but not enough information to share the whole story! One of the first things I did after my hair was curled was pull my mom aside and give her a gift from me. It was a bracelet that had a compass charm with an engraving that said, "A mother's love is true north always leading the way home." We both ugly cried for a minute, and it was one of my favorite moments I've ever shared with her. Another sweet gift moment was when my Aunt Judie pulled me aside and gave me a beautiful bible with our names engraved on it and a bookmark she cross-stitched for us. Then she gave me a newly-matted cross-stitch that was my Nana's for so many years. It hung on her wall in her nursing home and it has one of my favorite poems on it. I told my Aunt Judie how much I loved that and asked if she could make me one, but she gave me Nana's instead because she knew how much Nana would love for me to have it. It was the most special gift she could have given me, and I'm honored to have it hanging in our home.
Around the time everyone was finishing up hair and makeup, my sister came and got me from helping my Aunt Wanda and told me they had a surprise for me. When I walked into the fellowship hall, all the girls were sitting in a circle and asked me to sit with them. They presented me with a scrapbook and when I opened it up it said "Letters to the Bride." Cue the tears. Each one of my bridesmaids, my mama, and my mother-in-law had written me letters and included pictures of us together. Every page was filled with love and memories and sweet advice for the future. Anyone who knows and loves me knows that my love language is Words of Affirmation. Truly, this was one of the moments in my life where I felt the most loved. That scrapbook is now a centerpiece of our home, and to this day reading my girls' words brings me to tears. I am so thankful to my best friend Cynthia for organizing that and showing me how loved I really am.
After the scrapbook, Haylie and I went into the sanctuary for me to read my letter to Al as a part of our wedding video. We tried out a few different places to make sure the sound quality was good, and I am so excited to see what she and Seth have done with all the footage they got on our wedding day!
Once I was done recording my letter, it was finally time for me to get my hair and makeup done. Basically everyone else was finished by this point, so they got to stare at me while I was getting ready. My sister prepared lunch for us to eat, so everyone was nourished and hydrated before the spotlight was on them. Once I was all done up, Amber and Chase arrived and began taking detail shots before the portraits started. This gave me time to chat with all my girls and take some fun pictures before the real pictures began, and once those pictures started we only had a little bit of time before those doors opened to my new beginning...
I was planning on this blog being a timeline right up until the ceremony, but the more I write, the more I realize that the moments when I put on my dress until the ceremony have a lot of emotion and specific memories that I want to be able to share in detail. So stay tuned for Part Two of the Wedding Morning post!
